Alright, let's dive into these fresh custom tactics for FC25, especially with this new patch shaking things up! We're focusing on the 4213, the current meta, and how to make it work for you.
Build Up Play
First things first, in the Build Up Play, I'm all about Counter. It's what I'm using on pretty much all my formations right now. Counter is great because it encourages your players to get in behind the opposition's defense quickly as you transition from defense to attack. But here's the kicker, and what they don't tell you: when you lose the ball, your team sprints back into shape super fast. It's all about that quick transition, both ways.
Now, if you're finding it tough to create chances, maybe give Balanced a try. See if it clicks for you. But for me, it's Counter all the way.
Defensive Approach
This is where things get interesting with the new patch. I've always been an aggressive player, rocking that 95 depth because it was so broken and overpowered. You could still use it, but you won't get that automatic press and offside trap that made it so effective.
So, what's the play now? We're going with a 70 line height and High on the defensive approach. We still get a bit of a press, and I still like to be aggressive. It's been a bit of an adjustment, but I'm getting used to it. I think 70 is the best thing you can use.
Player Roles
Let's break down the player roles:
- Striker: Advanced Forward and Attack. This is my go-to in one-striker formations. Poacher is also very good, but Advanced Forward just works wonders for me.
- Wingers: This is where you can get creative. I'm using Inside Forward and Balanced on both the left and right wingers. I used to play Roaming, which is also very good. With Roaming, they come inside more. If you're struggling to create chances in the 4213, try Inside Forward and Roam. But with Inside Forward and Balanced, I like that they come shorter to give us more passing options, and then I can manually trigger them to make runs in behind.
- CAM: Playmaker and Balanced. Shadow Striker is very good, but I don't think it's as good in the 4213. I want my CAM to be the link between the CDMs and my front three. Playmaker and Balance is a good option. Playmaker and Build Up is also a good option. If you're struggling with passing lanes and patterns, try Playmaker and Build Up.
- CDMs: Both are set to Dline Playmaker and Build Up. They'll have more license to get forward, which helps with attacking play and passing patterns. Dline Playmaker and Defend is also a viable option, but I found my CDMs were a bit too defensive.
- Fullbacks: Fullback and Defend. Because of the 4213 meta, you need to keep them back. If you have an overlapping wingback, your opponent will likely be playing the 4213, and you'll get caught out on the counter.
- Center Backs: Defender and Defend. Simple and effective.
- Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper and Balanced.
