Alright, what's up, everyone! Today, we're diving deep into a formation that demands your full attention throughout the entire match: the 4-2-4. This is an incredibly attacking setup, so you absolutely need to be switched on defensively and have the right custom tactics to make it work. Let's get into it!
Tactical Setup: The 4-2-4 Blueprint
First things first, you're going to want to be using custom tactics. I mean, why wouldn't you? It's the only way to truly tailor your game plan.
Build Up Play
For the Build Up Play, I'm recommending Counter. This is crucial for this formation. When you lose the ball, your team will quickly retreat into their defensive shape. But when you win it back, they'll surge up the pitch with lightning speed. This is perfect for the 4-2-4, where you need that defensive support and quick transition.
Defensive Style
Normally, I'd recommend a more aggressive defensive approach, but with the 4-2-4, I think you have to go with Balanced, which is 50 on the line height. However, if you're chasing a game and switching into this formation, definitely crank that line height up to 95 with aggressive. But from the start of the match, stick with 50.
Player Instructions: Attacking Prowess
Let's get into the player instructions, starting with the wingers and strikers.
- Wingers (LW & RW): Both wingers are set to Inside Forward. This is key. I want them cutting inside, finding those pockets of space, and making runs from the outside in. This is a massive help in the attacking phase.
- Right-Sided Striker: Advanced Forward and Attack. This striker will be making those runs in behind the defense.
- Left-Sided Striker: Advanced Forward and Support. This is where things get interesting. This instruction creates a hybrid between a False Nine and an Advanced Forward. They'll sometimes drop a bit deeper, acting as a link-up player, and other times they'll be right up there with your other striker. This gives you a bit of breathing room in that CAM position.
Player Instructions: Midfield and Defense
Now, let's move on to the midfield and defense. This is where the 4-2-4 can be vulnerable, so we need to be smart.
- Central Midfielders (Both CMs): Holding and Defend. This is non-negotiable. Both of your central midfielders need to be sitting there, shielding and protecting the back four. If they're not doing that, you'll get carved open like you wouldn't believe.
- Full Backs (LB & RB): Full Back and Defend. With the current meta and how good this formation is going forward, you need your fullbacks to stay back.
- Center Backs (Both CBs): Defend. Simple and straightforward.
- Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper and Balanced.
In-Game Dynamics
In-game, you'll see the Advanced Forward on Attack making those penetrating runs in behind. The Inside Forwards will cut inside, helping with the build-up play. And the Advanced Forward on Support will give you that hybrid CAM/Striker role.
And there you have it! The 4-2-4 custom tactics. Remember, the key is to be defensively sound while unleashing that attacking firepower.
