Do you want to actually have fun while playing FC 25? I know that might sound crazy, but in today’s video, I’m going to show you a formation and custom tactics that’s not only meta and usable for getting more wins in the Weekend League but is also genuinely fun to play with. Let’s dive into the 4-1-2-1-2 narrow formation and the custom tactics that make it shine.
The 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow Formation
The 4-1-2-1-2 narrow is one of the GOAT formations in FIFA/EA FC. It’s been a staple for years, and this year is no different. It’s viable, effective, and, most importantly, it’s fun to use. I’m a huge fan of this formation—it’s the first one I try every year to see if it’s going to be the meta again. And honestly, I just love how it plays.
Custom Tactics Overview
Let’s break down the custom tactics step by step. Remember, the code for these tactics will be pinned in the comments, so you can copy them exactly as they are.
Tactical Preset
Always use Custom for your tactical preset. Avoid FC Preset, Direct Play, or Cautious—they’re not viable options. Custom gives you the flexibility to tweak everything to your playstyle.
Buildup Style
For buildup style, there are two main options:
- Balanced: This is my go-to and the one I recommend the most. With balanced, your players will mix forward runs with coming short, and the team transitions steadily into their in-possession shape. It’s the best option for most players.
- Counter: If you struggle defensively, counter is a solid alternative. When you lose the ball, your team will quickly drop back into their defensive shape, and when you regain possession, they’ll surge forward into attack. It’s a meta option, but I personally prefer balanced for its aggressive playstyle.
Defensive Style
For defensive style, there are three options:
- 95 Line Height + Aggressive: This is the meta right now. It’s broken, and it will make you a better player. Your defensive line will stay high up the pitch, and you’ll win the ball back quickly. I don’t even notice how high my defensive line is because it just works so well.
- 70 or 50 Line Height: If you’re struggling defensively, try lowering the line height to 70 or 50. It’s less aggressive but still effective.
Player Roles and Instructions
Strikers
- Left Striker: Advanced Forward + Support
- This player acts as a hybrid false nine and advanced forward. They’ll drop deeper to link play and help with build-up.
- Right Striker: Advanced Forward + Attack
- This player will make constant runs in behind the defense, playing on the last shoulder.
You can flip these roles if you want—it doesn’t matter which side you put them on. For example, I use Salah on the left (support) because he’s better at dribbling and linking play, while my right striker (attack) is more focused on making runs.
CAM
There are two options for the CAM:
- Playmaker + Balanced: This is my preferred option. The CAM acts as the link between the midfield and strikers, playing in the pocket of space behind the strikers.
- Shadow Striker: If you’re struggling to create chances, Shadow Striker is a great alternative. It’s very usable and can add a different dynamic to your attack.
Central Midfielders
I’ve been using double Box-to-Box on my central midfielders, and it’s been a game-changer. They have the license to get forward and help in attack but also drop back to support defensively. This works especially well because you have a CDM to shield the defense, so your CMs don’t need to stay back.
CDM
For the CDM, there are two options:
- Deep-Lying Playmaker + Defend: This is what I’m currently using. The CDM stays in position to shield the defense and doesn’t move too far forward.
- Holding + Defend: This is similar to the deep-lying playmaker but focuses more on staying in position. Both options work well, so choose based on your player’s strengths.
Fullbacks
Both fullbacks should be on Fullback + Defend. Overlapping fullbacks can leave you vulnerable to counterattacks, especially against formations like the 4-2-1-3. Keeping them on defend ensures they stay back and protect the flanks.
Center Backs
Keep it simple here—Defender + Defend for both center backs.
Goalkeeper
Set your goalkeeper to Goalkeeper + Balanced.
Final Thoughts
That’s it! These custom tactics for the 4-1-2-1-2 narrow formation are designed to be meta, effective, and fun. Whether you’re grinding Weekend League or just playing for fun, this setup will give you the edge you need.
