Alright, let's dive into the 4231, the formation that's been absolutely killing it for me lately. I've been experimenting with it, and I'm loving it. Let's get into the custom tactics.
Tactical Preset and Formation
First things first, we're going custom on the Tactical Preset. No question about it. Forget the manager presets; custom is the way to go. We're running the 4231 narrow, the one with the three CAMs. This formation is way better than I initially thought, especially with the tweaks I've made.
Build Up Play
For the Build Up Play, there are two options. I highly recommend Balanced. Players will vary between forward runs and coming short. The team's transition to the possession shape will be steady rather than sudden. I swear by it. It's the best option in my opinion. If you're struggling defensively, you could try Counter, but only if you're having trouble defending.
Defensive Approach
This brings us to the Defensive Approach. If you can defend, you have to use 95 Line Height with Aggressive Defensive Approach. It's genuinely game-breaking how overpowered this is. You just have to use it. If you're struggling defensively, you might want to go with a High or Balanced defensive approach. Try them out and see what works for you.
Player Roles
Let's talk player roles.
-
Striker: I don't spend too much time on the striker because when you're only playing one striker, they either have to be on Advanced Forward and Attack or Poacher. I much prefer Advanced Forward and Attack.
-
CAMs: All three CAMs are on Shadow Striker. No player role plus-ups or anything. Having done so much experimenting with the player roles, having plus-ups on your players really doesn't make a difference. This is a game changer in the 4231. It's pretty much a necessity. If you don't have them on Shadow Striker, they don't get involved enough in the attack, and you'll struggle to create opportunities.
-
CDMs: I personally use one CDM on Holding and Defend (my right-sided CDM) and the other on Deep Line Playmaker and Build Up. If you want to use both on Deep Line Playmaker and Build Up, that's absolutely fine. I actually prefer it, but I know a lot of you don't. So, I tried the holding role, and it worked. If you were to ask me point blank in the face which one do I think is better, I think having both CDMs on deep line playmaker and buildup is better, but I know a lot of you struggle when you use both cdms on but deep line playmaker and buildup with for example a 4213 so that's why I tried having one of them on holding that definitely did work I did actually concede less goals with that so maybe it really does help you out defensively but for me I like both my cdms on deep line playmaker and buildup really does help because of the 4213 meta which really really really annoys me I absolutely hate the 4213 meta YouTube it's one of my most hated formations ever to play against it is the most meta like by far it is a broken formation but because of that I'm not allowed to do what I want to do playing FC I love to have overlapping fullbacks overlapping win backs it really really really helps me out in the attacking phase are playing I just like to be aggressive in the attack I like to score more goals than my opposition I'm not really bothered about keeping a clean sheet as long as I score more goals I'm happy but the 4213 is in the game and it is a broken custom tactic so to negate that when our opponent is playing a 4213 you have to use both your left back and your right back on full back and Defender I don't like using it but you kind of have to if you come up against an opponent that is playing the 4213 and you've got an overlapping fullback back or Wing back that that your opponent's Winger won't Trap Back they'll cheat you'll lose the ball in transition and your opponent will have a free run on goal from the Winger on that side because your fullbacks out of position is so annoying but because of that both the left back and the right back are on fullback and defend both center backs though are just on Defender and Defender it doesn't make any difference what you use that's just what I use and then the goalkeeper is on goalkeeper and balance makes no difference between sweeper keeper and goalkeeper in my opinion it really really really doesn't I've tried them both and I think they're both play similar so that's how the team lines up with the ball very very very overpowered and like I said the three Shadow Strikers on the cams are a necessity in my opinion to make this formation work and there you will see the code right on your screen right there and that is going to be the end of the video if you did enjoy it you know what to do smash that like button drop a comment down below any questions you have and please hit that subscribe button to my channel so you never miss a video of mine thank you for watching Remember spread the love and positivity PMA posit man of latitude peace out one look

Fullbacks: Because of the 4213 meta, you have to use both your left back and your right back on Full Back and Defend. I don't like using it, but you kind of have to if you come up against an opponent that is playing the 4213.
-
Center Backs: Both center backs are on Defender and Defender.
-
Goalkeeper: The goalkeeper is on Goalkeeper and Balanced. It doesn't make a difference between sweeper keeper and goalkeeper in my opinion.
That's how the team lines up with the ball. The three Shadow Strikers on the CAMs are a necessity in my opinion to make this formation work.
