Alright, lads, EA has finally dropped a good patch, and you know what that means: brand new, updated 4-4-2 custom tactics for you! I've been using these in my Foot Champs quali run, and I'm really enjoying them. Let me know what you think of the new patch in the comments too! The passing is crisp, your players can actually run past defenders, and the game just feels a lot better. So, let's dive into these tactics, yeah?
Tactical Setup: The 4-4-2 Masterclass
We're going with the 4-4-2 flat formation, balanced on the Tactical Preset.
- Build Up Play: Balanced.
- Defensive Line Height: 60. I don't know if it does anything compared to 50, but in my head, it does a little bit, so I'm using it.
Player Roles: Fine-Tuning Your Squad
Now, let's get into the player roles. This is where we really make the magic happen.
- Left Striker: Advanced Forward and Support.
- Right Striker: Advanced Forward and Attack.
- Left Midfielder: Inside Forward and Balanced.
- Right Midfielder: Inside Forward and Balanced.
- Right Center Midfielder: Box to Box and Balanced. You can use this as a playmaker if you like, but I really, really like the Box to Box role in FC25. It's good, overpowered, and broken.
- Left Center Midfielder: Holding and Defend. This is crucial, especially with the new patch. Having one of your center midfielders play as a traditional number six, shielding and protecting the back four, really helps stop those counterattacks.
- Left Back: Wing Back and Balanced. This gives him a lot more license to get forward and help us out.
- Center Backs: Defender and Defend. That's the only thing I ever really use on my center backs.
- Right Back: Fullback and Defend.
- Goalkeeper: Balanced.
With this setup, the ball kind of plays like a back three with my right back basically forming a third center half, and the left back having the license to get forward on that left-hand side. The right side of the center midfielder will help out in the attacking and defensive phases of play, while the left side of the center midfielder will kind of just stay in that position and won't get forward much at all. The left and right midfielders, of course, cut inwards, and then you have the two strikers up top.
