Alright, what's up YouTube! We're back, and today we're diving into some custom tactics for the 4-2-3-1, the second variation, the one with the left and right midfielders. I got some inspiration from pro player Stokes, and after using it for my first five Weekend League games and going five and zero, I'm telling you, this formation is absolutely insane. Two CDM formations this year are so hard to break down, you're so defensively solid. So, let's get straight into it.
Tactical Preset and Build-Up Play
We're going with the 4-2-3-1 wide, or 4-2-3-1 number two. For the build-up play, I'm using balanced. Counter is a good option too, and it's definitely viable, but I just prefer balanced.
Defensive Approach
Remember, the line height is a bit busted this year. You can only use the preset one. So, even if you set it to 55, you're using 50. If you set it to 71, you're using 70. If you set it to 99, you're using 95. So, I just leave it on balanced, which is 50 line height. The reason being is because of the first-time through ball meta. It's very overpowered and broken, and it needs to go. It's so annoying to play against. Because of that, I need to play a bit of a conservative defensive line.
Player Roles
Now, let's get into the player roles.
- Striker: Advanced forward and attack. You definitely need that on your striker. Poacher is good too, so you can try that if you want.
- CAM: Playmaker and balanced. Shadow Striker and Classic 10 are both good as well, but I think playmaker and balanced is a lot better.
- Left Midfielder & Right Midfielder: Both on inside forward and attack.
- Right CDM: Holding and defend. The reason I have my right CDM on holding and defend is because of my right back.
- Left CDM: Deep line playmaker and defend. Deep line playmaker is very, very good. If you've got a player with a plus plus on that in a CDM role, definitely use it. I've been experimenting with it, and I really like it.
- Left Back: Attacking Wing back and balanced. I always like to have my left back on attacking Wing back and balanced if I can. I like to have a little bit of attacking support from one of my fullbacks, and I just always prefer it to be my left back because Theo Hernandez is just absolutely broken on this game.
- Center Backs: Defender and defend. Nice and simple.
- Right Back: Fullback and defend. This is the exact reason I have one of my fullbacks on attacking Wing back.
- Goalkeeper: Goalkeeper and balance.
In-Game Team Shape
With the ball, this is how the team plays. We've got that deep line playmaker, which is a little bit of a deeper role than the holding player. We've got the overlapping wing back from the left back. Both inside forwards are giving us nice support to the striker, and the CAM is just in that number 10 role. Then, of course, the back three.
