Alright, YouTube, we're back! I hope you had a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Today's video is all about a formation I've gone back to using, the one I call my bread and butter: the 442! It's an amazing formation, and I absolutely love it. I've personally gone back to using it, and I'm going to share my custom tactics with you.
Formation and Tactical Setup
We're sticking with the 442 flat, the one with the two central midfielders. I've tried the version with two CDMs, but I don't really like it. I don't think it's an amazing formation in FC25. It's good defensively, but going forward, there's too big a gap between your midfield and your two strikers.
- Build Up Play: I'm using Balanced. You can use Counter if you want, it's very good and meta, but I prefer balanced. I like to feel in control of my players. I like the custom tactics to be there and help me out, but not completely change the way that the team plays. I like to be in control, that's why a lot of my custom tactics are very balanced because I like to do a little few tweaks here and there in game if I need to.
- Defensive Approach: Because the line height is still glitched, I'm using 50 on the line height. The chip through ball meta is still here and it is still very broken. If I play a high defensive line, I really struggle with it.
Player Instructions
I would copy this player-for-player. I think this is the best 442 custom tactics that I've used this year. I'm falling back in love with the 442 now.
- Left Striker: Advanced Forward and Support. This striker will play as a hybrid false nine/striker, kind of like a 10 and a half.
- Right Striker: Advanced Forward and Attack. This striker will constantly play on the last shoulder and make penetrating runs in behind. I'd put your quicker player here.
- Left Midfielder: Inside Forward and Balanced.
- Right Midfielder: Inside Forward and Balanced. They both will make penetrating runs inwards towards my striker.
- Left Central Midfielder: Box to Box and Balanced. You'll see why when you see what I have my fullbacks on. There's method to the madness.
- Right Central Midfielder: Playmaker and Attack.
- Right Back: Stay Back While Attacking. This is why I use my right-sided central midfielder as the playmaker. We've got that defensive solidity behind us.
- Left Back: Balanced.
- Center Backs: Stay Back While Attacking.
- Goalkeeper: Balanced.
That's it, Bish bash Bosch, straight as a nut!
