Alright, what's up, guys? Welcome back to the channel! I'm back with some new custom tactics, and this time we're diving into the most basic, the most balanced formation in FC or FIFA history: the 4-4-2. You know it's one of the best formations basically every year, and we've got some custom tactics that I think played with these custom tactics in London at the FC Pro Open, where he did pretty well on day one. So, let's get into it!
Player Instructions
Let's break down the player instructions, starting from the back and working our way forward.
- Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper, Balanced. I like to keep it simple here.
- Fullbacks: Balanced. We don't want them tucking in too much during the build-up, so balanced is the best choice.
- Center Backs: Defender, Defend. Pretty standard stuff, no surprises here.
- Central Midfielders (CDMs): Holding, Defend. They'll still get involved in the attack, but you'll need to trigger them manually if you want them in the box. They'll still be around the edge of the box, which is perfect.
- Wingers: Winger, Balanced. We don't want them as Inside Forwards because we'd lose width in the build-up. Balanced helps them defend and gives us a better chance at a clean sheet.
- Strikers: Advanced Forward, Attack.
Remember, this formation is mirrored on both sides. We don't have a specific focus in the build-up; we go wherever the space is.
Tactics
Now, let's talk about the tactics.
- Build Up Play: Balanced.
- Chance Creation: Balanced.
- Width: 50.
- Players in Box: 5.
- Corners: 2.
- Free Kicks: 2.
- Defensive Style: Balanced.
- Defensive Width: 50.
- Defensive Depth: 50.
The key word here is balanced.
Gameplay Examples and Key Concepts
Let's look at some gameplay examples to see how these tactics work in action.
- Build-up and Pressing: You'll see the build-up, the high press, and how we can attack quickly. We want our CDMs to press and hold, so we can press up immediately after winning the ball. Then, it's just a few passes, patience, taking the right touch, and finishing it.
- Quick Counterattacks: With two strikers up front, you can go really quick in transition. The passing lane from the CM to the striker is often there.
- Recycling Possession: Sometimes, you need to recycle the ball, go back to the defenders, and wait for a striker to open up. Then, make a move with him and finish.
- Defensive Positioning and Closing Space: When the opponent has runners, track them first. Then, close the space to the middle to lock the striker up.
- Aggressive Defending: In this formation, you've got to be aggressive. Dare to select your defenders and get in front of your man.
- Fullback Support: It's really important to get those fullbacks to the inside to help the defenders out because you don't have a three-man midfield in front; it's just two.
So, that's the 4-4-2 in a nutshell.
