Alright guys, welcome back to the channel! We're diving into some new custom tactics today, specifically for the 4213. This formation is gaining traction, even being used by pros in the FC Pro Open and the pro ladder, so let's get into it.
Build-Up Play and Defensive Structure
Let's start with the build-up style, which is set to Counter. This choice heavily influences the rest of our tactics. We're running a line height of 70, which means we're pushing up high. The goal is to keep our center backs and defensive midfielders close together. We're not getting a ton of support from the wingers, so a high line is crucial to minimize the distance in our counterattacks. If we used "Balanced" build-up, we wouldn't be able to counter as quickly. With "Counter", we can immediately spring into action.
- Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper. I use this on every keeper; I think it's the best option.
- Fullbacks: Both on "Fullback" and "Balanced". I'm tempted to use "Wing Back" sometimes, but we can't afford to get countered too easily on the wings, especially with how aggressive our attackers are.
- Center Backs: "Defender". Simple, effective, and I think it's the best choice this year. I don't see many people using "Ball Playing Defender" unless the formation specifically requires it.
Defensive Midfielders and Attacking Roles
Now, let's talk about the defensive midfielders (DMs). There have been some changes this year, with new roles and focuses.
- Defensive Midfielders: The DM now has a "Stay Back While Attacking" instruction. I'm not a huge fan of "Stay Back While Attacking" but the new focus is "Ball Winning" for the holding DM. I've tried it, and you immediately notice the difference, especially when you have the ball.
- Attacking Midfielder (CAM): "Playmaker" and "Balanced". I feel like "Balanced" is the best option because he'll be everywhere anyway.
- Wingers: Both on "Inside Forward" and "Attack". They'll stay up for counterattacks, and when we win the ball, we can immediately get it to them.
- Striker: "Advance Forward" and "Attack".
Gameplay Examples and Tactical Insights
Let's break down some gameplay examples to see these tactics in action.
- Defensive Midfielders' Positioning: You can see how the DMs are glued to the opponent's number 10, making it incredibly difficult for them. The DMs stay close to the defense, making it hard for the opponent to find passing lanes. We're aggressive, and even when we don't get rewarded immediately, we recover well.
- High Line and Pressing: Because our line is so high, the opponent can't sprint away from us. They have to keep the ball close, giving us time to track back. This allows us to apply pressure and close down passing options.
- CDM's Role in Defense: The DMs are crucial in front of the defense. They help enormously in defense.
- Counter-Attacking: The high line pushes up, so the opponent is already close to the ball holder. They can't sprint away from a midfielder, so they feel trapped. If you chase back with your DM, you're more likely to recover the ball.
- Build-Up Play: We can make quick triangles with the CAM and the wingers. The inside forwards come inside between the fullback and center back, which is exactly the space we want to attack.
- Counter-Attacking: We cover the ball, immediately pass to the CAM, then to the striker. One pass, and we're in. This is how you're most dangerous. When we recover the ball, four of our players are basically in attack. Don't hesitate, go forward immediately. If you master the first-time triangle pass, it's a very good formation.
So, that's the 4213 tactics breakdown.
