Alright guys, welcome back! Today, we're diving into some tactics that aren't the dreaded five-back. I've been using these in my own FUT Champs on this account, and they've been performing really well. I enjoyed how it played, so I figured I'd share them with you. Let's get into it!
Formation: The 4-2-2-2
This is a bit of a classic formation, a 4-2-2-2. Traditionally in FIFA games, this formation has always been very effective. It's got a little bit of everything. You've got your solid back four, two CDMs that really help defensively, two CAMs that act as wingers but also come inside, and then your two strikers. There's a lot of variety in how you can use this formation. The way I like to do it involves a lot of driven passes and through balls in behind. So, you want two strikers that are quick, CAMs with good passing, and CDMs with good passing as well. They're linking up the play from deep, and then you use your CAMs and strikers as your attacking force.
Custom Tactics Breakdown
Let's get into the custom tactics for this 4-2-2-2.
- Build Up Play: Balanced.
- Depth: 70. You can adjust this based on your players, but this is what I was running.
Now, let's talk player instructions. You want to change these based on the players you have, so they're in their more comfortable roles.
- Strikers: If it wasn't for Crow having Poacher Plus+, you want two Advanced Forwards here.
- CAMs: I have one Playmaker and one Shadow Striker. Neymar is just ideal for that, you know, with a five-star, five-star. Attacking with three strikers works very well.
- CDM: You have one holding in mid and one deep-lying playmaker.
- Fullbacks: Fullback defend.
For the defense, I have fullback defend on both fullbacks. For the center backs, just defender.
Gameplay and Strategy
This setup works very well. I found that it's very balanced. You can play super direct, attacking, quick passing, or you can hold possession quite well. You'll see that there are a lot of passing triangles. You've got the CDM to the striker to the CAM, the CDM to the CAM to the fullbacks, fullback to the midfield to the center back – you get it. There are a lot of passing triangles, and it's very easy to create chances. Having the two strikers and the two CAMs is quite unique. It plays out very well, and then you also have those two CDMs shielding the defense.
Depending on how you set this up, it can be very, very defensively good as well. If you play a bit of a deeper line, all the back four on stay back, maybe even two holding CDMs, you can use this formation to shut out your opponent. I like to use it to be quite aggressive, attack, and press. You're covering quite a lot of the pitch. The only real area where you sort of get a bit overloaded and outnumbered is this gap between the fullback and the CAM, but other than that, it's a very decent formation. I recommend giving it a go. Let me know how you get on. Good luck in your FUT Champs!
