Alright Lads, let's dive into the tactics that got me to the Elite Division with the 4-5-1 formation. It was surprisingly easy and a lot of fun, so let's get into it.
Formation and Build-Up
We're going with a balanced build-up style. I just think it's the best, giving you a bit of everything. You get the short passing when you're using the bumpers to send players on runs and pull them short. You also get a bit of counter-attack threat with balance, so you're not just committing to counter-attacking. Being on balanced allows you to be a bit more unpredictable, which is nice.
Defensive Approach and Depth
The defensive approach is set to high, with a depth of 61. I've tried 95 and 70 as well. 95 is good if you're losing, and it really puts the pressure on. The higher your depth, the less room for error, but when you're looking to put loads of pressure on your opposition later in the game, going to 95 depth Lads is just ridiculous.
Player Roles
Let's get into the roles, Lads.
- Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper plus plus. I think it's the best role for the goalkeeper because they'll cover more of that box area and just own it a bit more.
- Right Back: Fullback and balanced. I don't like it on defend because it pushes inside. We want him to sit wide and cover that area.
- Center Backs: Defender. If you're going to use one on Defender, you must use the other defender on Defender Lads. You'll get a weird imbalance in your team if you have one on Stopper.
- Left Back: Wing Back plus plus. You want a player that is good going forward as well as going back. Having someone lengthy is also really nice because they're able to catch the attackers.
Midfielders
- Left and Right Center Mids: Playmaker. You want a right-footed player on the right-hand side so you can smack the travas and a left-footed player on the left-hand side. It does make a difference.
- Center Mid: Box to Box. You can change this to holding if you prefer a bit more of a sitting midfielder.
Wingers
The left and right mids are really important in this formation Lads because they are going to act like forwards for you.
- You can have these on attack, but I start them off on balanced Lads because they're a bit easier to pass to.
- You want them to be great goalscorers, but I want in this position Lads bags of pace and a really useful play style for this is Relentless as well because it up and down they do get tired so if you have a player that doesn't have Relentless like Williams and trii both have it but if they don't then you probably need to going to need to have Subs on your bench Lads as well as the fullback if your fullback doesn't have Relentless you're going to need a sub off your bench.
Striker
- We use Antoine Griezmann. I like to have at least one player that has the Finesse shot.
- You want someone that can pass. When trior and Williams are making the runs beyond the striker, which they will do, if you don't have a striker that can pass the ball, it is a problem because the through balls aren't accurate.
