Alright, let's dive into these updated post-patch 433 (number four variation) custom tactics. This formation, with the two central midfielders and the CAM, is absolutely fire, and you'll see a lot of pros using it because it's so well-rounded. Let's get into it!
Tactical Preset and Build-Up
First things first, we're going with Custom on the Tactical Preset. This is your bread and butter, the foundation for everything. The formation is the 433 Attack or the 433 number four variation – the one with the CAM.
Now, let's talk about the build-up style. There are two main options here:
- Balanced: This is the one I'm currently using, and I think it's amazing. Players will vary between forward runs and coming short, and the team's transition to their in-possession shape will be steady rather than sudden. I really, really love it.
- Counter: This was my go-to pre-patch, and it's still very, very good. It encourages players to get in behind the opposition's defense as the team transitions quickly from defense to attack. It's definitely something you can try.
I'm curious, what do you guys prefer? Do you copy my tactics exactly, or do you tweak things? Let me know in the comments!
Defensive Approach
Next up, the defensive approach. Again, we have two options:
- 71 Depth: This is what I'm using now. It gives you a high defensive line, and when we lose the ball, our team will automatically offside trap. If you remember from previous FIFAs, this was a very OP mechanic, and it's back! Trust me, it's top-draw.
- 61 Depth: If you struggle defensively, which is totally fine, I'd recommend going down to 61. You can still afford to be quite aggressive in your press, and sometimes you won't press as much because of that. There's a method to the madness, trust me.
For me, it's the 71 depth.
Player Roles
Now, let's break down the player roles. This is where the magic happens.
- Striker:
- Advanced Forward and Attack: This is what I'm using. I absolutely love it.
- Poacher: Very, very good if your player has a plus or plus-plus next to it.
- Left Winger & Right Winger:
- Inside Forward and Attack: Both wingers on the same role. I want them making those penetrating runs inwards towards the striker and the center of the goal. Think of a prime Liverpool under Klopp, with Salah and Mané. They'd constantly make those diagonal runs, and that's what I want here.
- CAM:
- Shadow Striker and Attack: This is the role I'm using. I've come to love this. Your player will get a lot of goals and assists in that CAM role with Shadow Striker because they will get into the box a lot more.
- Playmaker: If you struggle defensively, give this a go.
- Right Central Midfielder:
- Box to Box and Balanced: Box to box is a very overpowered player role this year. You'll see me use it a lot.
- Left Central Midfielder:
- Playmaker and Attack: I like to overload one side of the pitch, and this is why. It's really hard for your opponent to pick up the ball and defend.
- Left Back:
- Attacking Wing Back and Balanced: The left back will be bombing on a lot down that left-hand side.
- Center Backs:
- Defender and Defender: Standard.
- Right Back:
- Fullback and Defend: Our right back will tuck in, and we will defend in a back three.
- Goalkeeper:
- Goalkeeper + + and Balanced: Goalkeeper and Sweeper Keeper literally makes no difference.
That's how we attack with the ball. We're very overload left-side heavy. You've got the right back tucking in, so we're defending in a nice back three. You've got the box-to-box in the right central midfielder role, and then you've got a lot of players down that left-hand side. That's what I like.
