Alright, what's up, YouTube! The new patch is here, but the 5212 is still absolutely amazing, even after the update. There's been a slight change where your left and right backs in the 5212 are a little wider from the three center backs, but honestly, it doesn't make a lick of difference. So, without further ado, let's dive into the best updated post-patch 5212 custom tactics.
Build-Up Play
On the build-up style, I've gone back to balanced. Yes, you're seeing that right! Balanced is the way to go right now. I do like counter, and I think it's an amazing build-up style, very overpowered. But with a five-at-the-back formation, I don't feel like counter is needed because the defense is already so solid. Balanced is the perfect choice here.
Defensive Approach and Line Height
Now, for the defensive approach and line height, we're going all the way up to 71. I know, that might scare you a little bit, and I totally get it. But remember, we're playing a 5212. It's probably the most meta formation this year, right up there with the 442, which I actually prefer to play. But the 5212 is amazing defensively, which means we can afford to be aggressive with our defensive line. The 71 line height will scare you at first, but trust me, you'll get used to it and realize how overpowered this 5212 is with it.
Player Roles
Let's talk player roles. This is where the magic happens.
- Strikers: Both strikers are on Advanced Forward and Attack. Normally, in a two-striker formation, I'd have one on False 9, but with the five at the back, I need both strikers making those penetrating runs in behind, getting goals and assists.
- CAM: The CAM is on Shadow Striker and Attack. This is an attack-minded midfielder who plays in the hole behind the strikers. Their well-timed runs into the box will result in plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. You'll notice how many goals and assists your CAM gets with this role.
- Right CM: The right-sided central midfielder is on Box to Box and Balanced. Box to Box is an overpowered player role this year, absolutely amazing.
- Left CM: The left-sided central midfielder is on Playmaker and Attack. I experimented with Stay Back While Attacking, but there was a gap in midfield. Playmaker on Attack works wonders.
- Left Back & Right Back: Both are on Attacking Wing Back and Attack. We need this! If they're not, we won't get width in the 5212, which is crucial for creating goal-scoring opportunities.
- Center Backs: All three defenders are on Defender and Defend. Doesn't really make much of a difference, but that's what they're on.
- Goalkeeper: The goalkeeper is on Goalkeeper and Balanced. It doesn't really matter between Sweeper Keeper and Goalkeeper; they both play very similarly. Use whichever your goalkeeper has the Plus+ on.
And there you have it! The beautiful, overpowered 5212. If you've played Weekend League, you know how good this formation is right now. It has absolutely everything.
