Alright lads, let's dive into my custom tactics rotation – four custom tactics that are gonna seriously help you rack up those wins in Weekend League. Let's get it!
The 4-5-1: The Foundation
This is the one I start with in every single game. I reckon it's probably one of the most balanced formations in the game. I actually prefer this over the 4-4-2 because you get more bodies in midfield, which gives you more passing options. The way you can set up the wingers and forwards allows it to attack like a 4-3-3.
- Formation: 4-5-1
- Depth: 61
- Build Up Play: Balanced
- Instructions:
- CDM: Stay Back While Attacking
- Left CM: Balanced
- Right CM: Get Forward
- Left & Right Wingers: Get in Behind
- Fullbacks: Stay Back While Attacking
This setup gives you a solid base. You've got someone to sit and hold, a box-to-box midfielder who's gonna get up and down the pitch, and a playmaker to create chances. The wingers are proper attackers, pushing into the box to score goals. The attacking fullback needs pace and good track-back speed. I always recommend having a replacement left back on the bench because that fullback will get tired around the 60th-70th minute mark.
The 4-3-3 (False 9): The Wild Card
This is a tactic we released on the channel the other day, and it plays with a false nine.
- Formation: 4-3-3 (False 9)
- Depth: 61
- Build Up Play: Short Passing
- Instructions:
- Fullbacks: Balanced
- Left & Right Wingers: Get in Behind
- Center Forward: Stay Central, Get in Behind
This one is all about controlling the tempo of the game with short passing. The center forward drops deep, and the wingers push on. You need a striker with good passing and dribbling stats for this to work. I recommend having a left-footed player on the left wing and a right-footed player on the right wing for those tricky trivelas. This is more of a wildcard for me. I use it when I'm not necessarily losing, but I'm trying to create different patterns of play. If my striker is getting marked out of the game, I'll switch to this to pull defenders deeper and rely on the wide players to create chances.
The Aggressive 4-5-1 Press: The Comeback Kid
This is my aggressive 4-5-1 press. It's a lot more aggressive than the first 4-5-1. This is geared towards when I'm losing a game.
- Formation: 4-5-1
- Depth: 95
- Build Up Play: Fast Build Up
- Instructions:
- Center Mid: Balanced
- Left & Right CM: Get Forward
- Center Backs: Stopper
- Left & Right Wingers: Get in Behind
- Fullbacks: Balanced
This formation is designed for getting you back into games. The center backs are set to "Stopper" to step up and be aggressive. The center mids are set to "Get Forward" to push the midfield up. This is a seamless transition, which is super underrated. This is a tactic geared for when we're losing a game and it is really good because you just kind of you can flick it on the d-pad and you your positions your players don't really change they just their roles change so it's like a seamless transition which is super underrated.
The Defensive 4-1-4-1: The Game Closer
This is my more defensive formation, what I use to see out games.
- Formation: 4-1-4-1
- Instructions:
- CDM: Stay Back While Attacking, Cover Center
- Left & Right CM: Balanced
- Left & Right Mid: Come Back on Defense, Cut Inside
- Fullbacks: Stay Back While Attacking
- Striker: Stay Central
This is more geared towards controlling the play. You've got almost a five-man midfield that can pass to each other at all times. The fullback still gets forward because I do think the width is needed in a lot of formations and just breaking people down, especially when using five backs. If you don't enjoy the fullback going forward for this formation, I definitely recommend you just change wing back to fullback, and then you will have a completely rock-solid backline. If I'm finding the person who's hitting me hard on the counterattack in the game, I will flip this in-game. I will go into my tactics and change this to fullback just to prevent those counterattacks, especially if I'm trying to hold on to a lead.
That's my full custom tactics rotation. It's all based around the 4-5-1, and what I've found the most fun at the moment. This is what I'm using in Division Rivals and Foot Champs.
