Alright, YouTube, we're diving back into a formation that's been my bread and butter for years: the 4-3-2-1! It's had a bit of a shake-up, but is it making a comeback? Let me know in the comments! Today, I'm going to show you the custom tactics I've been using, and trust me, it's still a viable meta option. Let's get into it!
Tactical Setup: The 4-3-2-1
First things first, let's get the basics down.
- Formation: 4-3-2-1
- Build Up Play: Counter. This is the way to go! When we get the ball, our players make those forward runs, but when we lose it, they sprint back into shape. It's seriously overpowered.
- Defensive Approach: 61 on the line height. This is the sweet spot.
Player Instructions: Making the Formation Tick
Now, let's talk player roles. This is where the magic happens.
- Striker: Advanced Forward and Attack. This guy is versatile, staying close to the defensive line, opening up for passes, and making those runs in behind. False 9 and Poacher are good, but Advanced Forward is the way to go.
- Left and Right CAMs: Shadow Striker and Attack. This is key! It makes them play like three center forwards, just like last year. It really helps with goal-scoring opportunities.
- Left Central Midfielder: Playmaker and Attack. This guy gets a lot of license to get forward on that left-hand side.
- Middle Central Midfielder: Hold and Defend. This player shields and protects the back four, staying in that traditional number six position.
- Right Central Midfielder: Box to Box. This guy will stay there, get forward, and help out in the defensive third.
- Right Back: Fullback and Defend. Very similar to stay back while attacking from last year.
- Center Backs: Defend and Defend. Doesn't really matter if you use Ball Playing Defender or Defender.
- Left Back: Attacking Wing Back and Attack. This is crucial for width and attacking threat.
- Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper or Goalkeeper. Doesn't matter which one you use.
In-Game Look: How it Plays Out
Without the ball, defending in the 4-3-2-1 is easy. Remember, in FC25, the formation you're playing with is the one you defend with. So, we defend in a traditional 4-3-2-1.
With the ball, it's very similar to last year and the years before. The Shadow Striker on the CAMs is where you need it. It really helps with the cams playing as center forwards and attackers.
