Alright guys, let's dive into some custom tactics! I've been simplifying my gameplay, and I'm excited to share what's been working for me. This is a bit different from my other tactics, like the five backs, so I hope you enjoy it. Let's get into it!
Formation and Player Roles: The 4-4-2 Blueprint
We're rocking the classic 4-4-2. This formation just seems to work every single year in FIFA/EA FC. It's a staple because of its balance: a solid back four, two center mids, two wingers, and two strikers. It's a very balanced formation. I've always seen this and the 4-2-3-1 as staple formations in the game. The 4-2-3-1 is a little more defensive, while the 4-4-2 is a bit more attacking, but both are fundamentally sound.
The key to making this 4-4-2 tick is the player roles. The counter-attack is seriously strong in this game, and if you're dominating matches, it can actually hurt you because your opponent will always have that counter opportunity. So, we need the right roles to fix that.
Here's the breakdown:
- Fullbacks: Both fullbacks are set to "Stay Back While Attacking." We're not getting any attacking support from them. You could even use a center-back type player like Gomez or Kound茅 at fullback, and it'll work well.
- Wingers: This is where it gets interesting. I've turned both the right and left mids into "Winger" with "Get in Behind" instructions. This gives us that width and pace, which is crucial. Think of someone like Beasley, who's rapid, bombing down the line for cutbacks.
- Strikers: I'm still experimenting with the best roles here.
- Harland: I've got him on "Poacher" with "Stay Central" and "Get in Behind". He still finishes everything, but he feels a bit stiff now.
- Jesus: He's on "Advanced Forward" with "Stay Central" and "Get in Behind". I can't always tell the difference between the two roles, but the advanced forward seems to make more varied runs.
- Center Mids: Having two box-to-box center mids is the way to go in this formation. If you start using a playmaker, you'll get ripped apart on the counter. You need that midfield support, especially against good players.
Tactics: Counter and High Depth
For the tactics, I'm still using "Counter" for the build-up play. You can try both "Balanced" and "Counter" and see which one suits you better.
- Defensive Style: Balanced
- Width: 50
- Depth: 70. I'm still undecided on this, but I spam a lot of offside traps, so I raise my line higher anyway. Pressuring your opponent and having a high back line is something that I feel is beneficial.
- Offensive Style: Counter
- Width: 50
- Players in Box: 6
- Corners: 3
- Free Kicks: 3
This setup gives you a lot of options going forward: your two center mids, both wingers, and two strikers.
