Alright YouTube, you know what that means: a brand new set of custom tactics for you to use in the Foot Champs weekend League! And it's the formation you're looking at right on your screen right now. I'd be lying if I told you that five at the backs aren't probably the best formations to use with the latest patch that has dropped, nerfing the speed boost and all that bad stuff. Because they removed that, five at the backs are now well and truly back, and it's actually a formation I've never done a formation on: the 5-2-3!
Custom Tactics: The 5-2-3 Blueprint
Let's dive into the custom tactics for this beast of a formation.
Build Up Play
-
Build Up Style: Counter. This is definitely overpowered, give it a go, you will be shocked at how broken it is.
-
Defensive Style: Balanced.
-
Defensive Width: 40.
-
Defensive Depth: 71. Because we are defending in a back five, I can afford to be quite aggressive with my defensive line and how aggressive I want to be in the press. We can afford to take a few more risks with our defense.
Offense
-
Offensive Style: Balanced.
-
Offensive Width: 50.
-
Players in Box: 6.
-
Corners: 2.
-
Free Kicks: 2.
Player Instructions: Unleashing the 5-2-3
Now, let's get into the player instructions. This is where the magic happens.
Attackers
-
Striker: Advanced Forward and Attack. Poacher is good, but Advanced Forward is just that little bit better.
-
Left Winger & Right Winger: Inside Forward and Attack. This is crucial! They will make penetrating runs inwards towards my Striker. If we don't do this, your striker in a 5-2-3 is very isolated, and you'll struggle to create goal-scoring opportunities.
Midfielders
-
Right Central Midfielder: Box to Box. Use a Jude Bellingham type of midfielder in this role. I want them to get forward but also help out defensively.
-
Left Central Midfielder: Hold and Defend. It doesn't matter if you want to flip this around and have your left Center midfielder box to box or whatever, just as long as you have one of the central midfielders on holding and the other one on box to box.
Defenders
-
Left Back & Right Back: Attacking Wing Back and Attack. This is an absolute necessity when we are using a five at the back. I need them to overlap, I need them to play as basically left midfielders and right midfielders when we have the ball. If we don't, we are not going to score many goals with this formation, believe you me!
-
Three Center Backs: Defender and Defend. Very, very simple. I think it's possibly the best.
-
Goalkeeper: It doesn't make a difference whether you use sweeper keeper or goalkeeper, so just use whichever one your goalkeeper has the plus sign with.
There you have it, the 5-2-3 custom tactics and player instructions. Good luck in the weekend League!
