What's going on everyone, UL back here with a brand new video on the channel! Today, we're diving into something different. I'm going to show you my incredible 5-2-1-2 tactics. I've been playing with these for the past two or three days, and while my 4-4-2 is working perfectly fine, these are my best five-back custom tactics and roles. So, let's jump right in!
Team Selection and Player Roles
First off, let's talk about the team. As you've seen in my previous squad builder video, I finally got the main man, R9! I managed to buy him for 13 million coins, first owner, and I probably won't sell him throughout the whole game. He's super important for me, especially in qualifiers. When playing these ladders, we can't play with lone players, so I have Jude Bellingham and Saliba in my team. For Weekend League, I might play Romero or another center-back, and someone else alongside Patrick Guaru.
Here's the team: Cech, Van Dijk, Rudiger, Saliba, Fernandez, and the new Champions League Pong in midfield. We have Patrick Guaru, Jude Bellingham, David Jun, Ginola, R9, and Mbappe up top.
Now, let's get into the tactics and player roles.
Custom Tactics
Here are my tactics:
- Formation: 5-2-1-2 (in my opinion, one of the best formations on the game right now)
- Build Up Play: Balanced
- Defensive Approach: High (I'm playing it on 70 at the moment, and it's working very well for me, especially the pressure plate)
Player Roles Breakdown
Let's break down the player roles:
- GK (Cech): Sweep Keeper. He's really good at stopping attacks and supporting build-up play as a passing option.
- RWB (Jeremy Fong): Attacking Wing Back. Fong is really good on the ball. Consider someone like Hakimi if you can't afford Fong.
- LCB, CB, RCB (Alba, Van Dijk, Rudiger): Defender. Focus on physicality, pace, acceleration, and general defending. Rudiger has Defender plus plus, excelling at the basics of defending. Van Dijk is a Defender, and Alba is also a Defender.
- LWB (Fernandez): Attacking Wing Back. Balance on him in terms of focus.
- CDM (Patrick Guaru): Holding Midfielder. This is a pivotal role. He focuses on guarding the backline during attacks and covering against counterattacks with limited attacking support. Holding means he helps with the build-up. The Long Ball Plus play style is key here. I would suggest you guys to always have at least one of the midfielders that is really really good with pausing because that would help you a lot in build up in the five back.
- CM (Jude Bellingham): Box to Box. He operates between the two boxes, involving himself in everything in between.
- CAM (Ginola): Shadow Striker. An attacking minor midfielder who plays in the hole behind the strikers. You need to manually trigger Ginola with L1 so he makes creative runs behind and pushes their opponent's defense down.
- LS (Mbappe): Advanced Forward. A versatile attacker who usually stays close to the position's defensive line but opens themselves up for passing in the build-up and makes runs in behind for scoring chances.
- RS (R9): False 9. He drops deep to dictate play in front of the defense, contributing to the defensive phase of the game. This role is great for build-up, offering short passes.
Gameplay Mechanics and Strategy
With the 5-2-1-2, you can put some really good pressure on your opponents. You can pull players out of position because you will still have that extra defender when they are trying to attack. If you win the tackle, you have a good chance of scoring because you will have a good counterattack opportunity.
When attacking, always try to go inside with the 5-2-1-2, but also make your wingers run to create width for your team. Try to take your players back and make it as compact as possible. If your opponent is in this kind of sequence, then you want to put pressure on him.
This formation is really good in terms of counterattacks. You can find space and score.
