Alright guys, welcome back to another custom tactics video! I know you've been waiting for this one. It's the first weekend of FUT Champions, and I'm sure a lot of you are about to kick off your games, so I'm here to help you out. I'm going to show you what I used in my run. I got Rank 2, which, you know, in hindsight, was pretty good. We wanted Rank 1, but these tactics weren't what let us down on the one loss. These worked really, really, really well. It's going to be in a 4-3-2-1, which I did upload last week, but this is slightly different. We've tweaked it. I've played enough now to understand what's going on, so hopefully this helps. Let's get into it!
Formation and Player Roles
So, as you can see, we're in a 4-3-2-1. This isn't the team I used for my run because I've upgraded it since the rewards are really decent this year. You guys are here for the tactics, and I'll leave the code for you guys in the comments.
Like I said, it's a 4-3-2-1, which, obviously, last year and stuff, was the formation everyone feared. It got changed this year because the center forwards are now CAMs, and the way I've sort of gotten around that is by making them shallow strikers. It seems to work quite well. You can see there I've actually got the striker in a false nine, and the reason I tried that is because I was using Lautaro Martinez, who has False 9 Plus+. But the false nine actually works really well because what tends to happen is that false nine sort of drops into a CAM position when needed, and then you have the shadow strikers that make the runs in behind. So the attack still flows well, you get some nice passing triangles and stuff like that.
I feel like the midfield balance is absolutely perfect. You have one holding player in the middle, a box-to-box, so he's getting up and down, helping with the defending. He'll actually make some runs into the box for attacking as well, and then a playmaker. For the playmaker, if you can have someone who has that Plus+ and the right stats for it, you know, a Bonmati or, you know, even like a KDB or somebody like that, that is what works really well. Someone like that, even a Bruno Fernandes on a cheaper budget, that sort of player is working really, really well for the playmaker attack.
Now, I think the main thing that I've had to accept and sort out is that some of these meta player roles, you just have to sort of forget about it. So, for example, you can see Canelo, I have as a fullback defend, and he could have, you know, a Plus as an attacking wingback or maybe even a Plus+. But for this setup, you just need the balance. So you need one of your fullbacks defending, and then the other fullback you can have as a wingback balanced. And what you get is some really nice whip from the left back going forward. They'll make overlapping runs, even getting some goal-scoring opportunities, but you're always going to have that back three intact along with the holding midfielder who's just going to sit in front of them. I think the issue with my last tactics, as much as they were really good going forward, you did, you know, you were susceptible to counter-attacks, and sometimes the defense was a bit all over the place, whereas with this one, it just feels a lot more secure.
So those are the player roles. I'm trying to get defenders now that are just on Defender as well. I'm not a fan at all of the ball-playing center-back and especially not the stopper. So those are the roles. When it comes to the striker, there's no real right or wrong, I feel like honestly any of them work, whether it's false nine, poacher, advanced forward, any of them. So if you've got a player, you know, that has a Plus+, I honestly think any of it can work.
Tactics
In terms of the actual tactics, obviously, 4-3-2-1, I play on counter, and I've changed my depth a little bit. What I've noticed on this game is so many people just sit back and counter, you know, over-the-top through balls, through balls in general, and the AI on this game defensively are really not tracking runs properly. So in terms of like the auto offside traps, at the higher depth, for now, I've actually gotten rid of it. I'm still playing a fairly high line at 60, but that is just a sort of nice balance where I can still press up high and things like that, but it's not too ridiculous, and I'm not getting caught on counters. It's quite balanced. I can control the game, press well. It's just quite versatile in all aspects this setup.
