Alright, YouTube, we're back with a brand new 41212 narrow custom tactics setup for you! Let's dive right in.
Tactical Setup: 41212 Narrow
This formation is an absolute beast, very similar to the 4312, but with a bit more defensive solidity.
Build Up Play
- Build Up Style: Counter. Trust me on this one, YouTube. I've been using counter a lot in my recent videos, and there's a method to the madness. It's the best way to go.
Defensive Approach
- Defensive Style: Balanced
- Defensive Width: 61. If you struggle defensively, maybe drop it down to 50 or 55.
Player Roles
Here's where the magic happens.
- Left Striker: Advanced Forward and Attack. This guy is making those penetrating runs.
- Right Striker: False 9. This is a game changer. It doesn't make a huge difference, but it does.
- CAM: Shadow Striker and Attack. This is the one I recommend the most. A Shadow Striker makes well-timed runs into the box, resulting in plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. You could also use Playmaker and leave it on balanced.
- Right Central Midfielder: Box to Box and Balanced. Because the right striker is dropping deeper, you don't need the midfielder to take up the same position.
- Left Central Midfielder: Playmaker and Attack. Since the left striker is making those forward runs, you want this midfielder to help out in the attacking third on that left side.
- CDM: Holding and Defend. Just want this guy to sit there, shield the back four, and pass the ball to the better players. Think of a traditional number six like Rodri or Boubacar Kamara.
- Right Back: Stay Back While Attacking and Defend. This keeps the defense solid.
- Center Backs: Defender and Defend. Doesn't really make a difference if you want to use them as ball-playing defenders, but I think Defender and Defend is the best.
- Left Back: Attacking Wing Back and Attack. This guy is bombing forward, overlapping, and attacking. You'll be shocked at how many assists and goals he gets.
- Goalkeeper: Goalkeeper and Defend. I've found no difference between Sweeper Keeper and Goalkeeper, so just use whatever your keeper has the Plus or Plus+.
In-Game Shape
With the ball, this formation lines up very narrow, funneling through the center of the pitch, but with the left back bombing down the left-hand side.
